How do you say good night in Spanish?

Good morning: Buenos días
Good afternoon: Buenas tardes
Good evening/Good night: Buenas noches
  • Buenos días is used as a greeting until noon (12pm).
  • Buenas tardes is used as a greeting from after noon (12pm) until sunset.
  • Buenas noches is used as a greeting in the evening, as you would use good evening, and also to say goodbye, as you would use good night.

Usage:

When you get to work in the morning, you would greet your colleague with ¡Buenos días, Pedro!
When you come back from lunch at around 1pm and answer your work phone, you would say ¡Buenas tardes!
When you leave work and meet friends for dinner at 8pm, you would politely greet the host with Buenas noches.
When you leave dinner to head home you’d wish your friends ¡Buenas noches! or ¡Que pasen buenas noches!
